Hands

Without asking the head, hands reach for the kettle, the cup, the spoon, the cup again. They have a memory the head does not consult. Without asking the head, they find the book in the dark at the right page. They close the curtain the light was already coming through. A man should be quiet about his hands. They are doing his believing for him while he is busy doubting, saying *I have decided* with the wrist while the mouth is still working at the words.
